On Monday, I walked into the lab at 10 AM to find it completely empty. Turns out there's a flu going around in the lab. Luckily, I am intact from the disease. Unfortunately Ram and Mark were both sick from the flu so I'm left alone for the rest of the week.
However, Mark and I still communicate through text and he ask me to grow several MoS2 batches through the week. There have been several problems that I ran into during those growth. First, there were leaks within the sulfur ventilation system that made the room smell like sulfur at one point. Second, when I was growing WS2, the flakes were really small with a low density. I'm not sure if there's a problem with the growth promoter or my method is malfunctioning. Before I had the chance to find out, I got switched back to growing MoS2. It seemed my series of unfortunate events didn't end with WS2, my MoS2 flakes didn't grow the first 2 times. People say three time's a charm and indeed it was, I found a problem with the 1% promoter that I was using so I made a new bottle of promoter and the flakes were wonderful.

Most of them were big with a nice density and not a lot of multilayered flake. Other than those incidents, my week was pretty uneventful in terms of lab work. In terms of having fun however, I got to see Pang and Stephanie and Jerry in a nice Japanese restaurant. Later we have dessert together as we sit and talk.

I'm starting to work on my poster with the help of Ram. I hope all things go well. Can't wait to get back to Vietnam, Philly is nice but nowhere is as nice as home
